Do I have to plug in the U by Moen shower valve, and is an electrician required for installation?

Yes, it is necessary to plug the valve into an 110v AC supply on a GFCI Circuit. A certified electrician should install the initial GFCI outlet. This outlet should be installed above the valve body.
